Farming leaders set out key asks to new minister | brecon-radnor.co.uk

Farming leaders have welcomed the appointment of Huw Irranca-Davies MS as the new Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales. Ian Rickman, President of the Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW), and Aled Jones, President of NFU Cymru, have both congratulated Irranca-Davies on his appointment.

The FUW and NFU Cymru have set out key asks for the new minister, including the need for a sustainable and environmentally-friendly approach to farming, improved support for rural communities, and increased investment in agricultural research and development.

Speaking about the appointment, Ian Rickman said: ‘We look forward to working with Minister Irranca-Davies to address the challenges facing Welsh farming and to promote the sector’s vital role in the Welsh economy.’

Aled Jones added: ‘We believe that Minister Irranca-Davies has a unique opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of farmers and rural communities in Wales.’

The FUW and NFU Cymru have also called for the new minister to prioritize the development of a new agricultural policy that takes into account the needs of Welsh farmers and the environment.
